Key Worker Accommodation
Iceni Homes, working in partnership with other agencies and organisations, provides accommodation specifically for key workers. The key worker living programme is a government-funded scheme aimed at people employed by the public sector. The scheme helps such workers to buy or rent a home at affordable prices.
Type of scheme: 12 shared ownership properties.
Location: Great Cornard, Sudbury, Suffolk.
Partners: Iceni Homes, Colne Housing Society (masthead image), Babergh District Council, contractor and architect Persimmons and the Homes and Communities Agency.
The development: A new scheme for key workers, who earn less than £28,000, and who may not normally be able to afford to buy a home outright on the open market in the Great Cornard area.
The first phase of homes included a mix of terraced, semi-detached houses and maisonettes. They are part of a larger housing development on Bures Road, Great Cornard, Sudbury.
Key workers may include local authority teachers, health service workers, police, fire and ambulance workers and local Government workers, amongst others. Priority was given to key workers who live, work or had close links with the Great Cornard and Sudbury areas.
The development consists of six two-bedroom houses, two three-bedroom houses and four two-bedroom maisonettes.
