Iceni to build another 1000 new homes in the east of England
Posted: Feb 20, 2012
This new deal means that each of Iceni’s three affordable housing partners,Colne Housing Society in Colchester, Suffolk Housing Society in Bury St Edmunds and Hundred Houses Society in Cambridge, can meet their ambitious plans which will result in them each increasing their stock of affordable homes by between 15 and 20 per cent over this period
The £123 million programme has been made possible as a result of the Government’s Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and partner Local Authorities contributing a total of £21 million part of which was funded from the HCA’s 2008-11 programme.
Iceni Homes recently announced its 1000 Homes major milestone at a reception in Hengrave Hall, Bury St Edmunds. This “1000 Homes Event” unveiled the funding boost to guests, including local authorities, developers, consultants, tenants and representatives from partner organisations.
Our Managing Director, Mike Goodson, says: “This is a fantastic result for Iceni, its partners and for the region. It means that more people should have the chance to live in a high-quality home that they can afford and this will make a significant difference to local communities."
“It presents Iceni with the opportunity to continue to provide a diverse range of much-needed homes and projects in partnership with the HCA and our Local Authority partners in these challenging economic times."
“We will now be able to build as least as many homes in this next four year programme as we have done in the previous four year programme – which, in the present economic climate, represents an exceptional achievement.”
The funding will deliver 1000 homes in the next four years across Essex, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire including a broad mix of family-sized homes and apartments, all at affordable rents and some shared ownership homes.
Whilst some of the new generation of Iceni-led developments are already under construction, others are in the pipeline. One of Iceni’s new developments at The Cambridge Fire Station site is already under construction and will provide 39 much-needed new affordable homes. This is just one of Iceni’s many new developments that will span across the whole of the region.
Mike Goodson adds: “Our partners’ investment in new affordable homes will also help to protect jobs in the east of England’s building and construction sectors and will hopefully assist in creating that much- needed new growth in the region through to 2015.”
Iceni Homes is one of the region’s top affordable housing developers committed to meeting the housing needs of local communities.
The 1000 new homes are targeted at the many families and single people in the region who cannot afford a home of their own.
