Cuckoo Point flies high for Iceni Homes

A new landmark apartment block of affordable homes situated within striking distance of Colchester United’s new award-winning Weston Stadium is set to open its doors this month (September 09).
The new apartments on a prominent north Colchester site known as Cuckoo Point are part of a larger mixed development on the site which borders both the Colchester Business Park and the football stadium; the site will eventually include business, retail and commercial units as well as other family homes.
Leading East of England developer Iceni Homes will hand over the 21 apartments to Colne Housing in September and selected families from Colchester Council’s Choice Lettings programme will then be offered the opportunity to move into the homes, all of which will be for rent at affordable rates.
The prominent Cuckoo Point complex includes 15 one-bedroom apartments and six two-bedroom apartments on a green site which has been purchased as part of planning gain, known as a Section 106 agreement.
Developed by leading East of England developer Iceni Homes for Colne Housing, Cuckoo Point will offer modern design in high quality homes in a wooded environment which has good links to the A12, the Business Park and public transport links to the town centre.
Built by Feering-based JDS Construction Ltd, the site’s architects were TPA Design Company and the engineers were the Richard Jackson Partnership.
Mike Goodson, Managing Director of Iceni Homes, said: “Cuckoo Point is the latest flagship development from Iceni Homes which is committed to providing innovative, high quality accommodation in highly-desirable location across the east of England.
“Cuckoo Point benefits from its proximity to major arterial routes including the A! 2 and several major employment zones in Colchester including Severalls and the Colchester Business Park. In addition it offers the chance for football fans to walk to Colchester United’s new stadium – and still be home in time for the televised results!”
With a programme totaling £18 million in 2008, Iceni Homes, is now the development arm of Colne Housing Society in Colchester, Suffolk Housing Society in Bury St Edmunds and Hundred Houses in Cambridgeshire, and is ahead of its target, despite the economic downturn.
Iceni Homes’ rapid growth in recent years mean it is now set to deliver some 300 affordable homes every year over the next few years across Essex, Suffolk, south Norfolk and Cambridgeshire.
