New homes in Heybridge get thumbs up after public meeting

Posted: Nov 2, 2009

Revised plans to build 30 new affordable homes for local people at Everest Way, in Heybridge received acknowledgement from local people as having responded positively to many of their concerns after a second public meeting.

Changes were made to the some of original designs after affordable homes development company, Iceni Homes, unveiled its plans at the first public consultation earlier this year. A number of local residents expressed views about how the designs could be changed and these alterations have been incorporated into the new plans.

Iceni Homes Regional Director, Steve Heywood, said: “This is a great example of the culture of our organisation, we listen to local people and respond positively to their comments. We believe that as a responsible developer and affordable home provider we should ensure that local views are taken on board. Clearly, we cannot please absolutely everyone but we have tried very hard to make sure we have met most people’s concerns and therefore acted as a good neighbour.”

Iceni plans to build the homes on behalf of Colchester based Colne Housing, who is committed to meeting the housing needs of the local community. The 30 proposed new properties are targeted to help many families and single people in the area who may not be able to get on to the housing ladder.

The plans for the 30 new affordable homes are to be submitted to the Planning Department at Maldon District Council shortly and a decision is expected in the next few months.
